"Here's the story of a lovely lady. Who was bringing up three very lovely girls. All of them had hair of gold, like their mother, The youngest one in curls."
I was at the grocery store yesterday, which also is a post office branch, where I drop off my outgoing ModestPop packages everyday. I saw this girl wearing these rad velvet vertical striped olive and burgundy bell bottoms. They were definitely a statement piece and were super trendy vintage. I thought, "wow, she's definitely going for it! I love it!"
If I had to align myself with one of the decades, I would call myself a 70's flower child. It’s not just because I loved watching reruns of the show The Brady Bunch when I was younger. (If you're too young to know, that's the quote at the top of this article is the intro song to the show. Look it up online and watch an episode. It's throwback and fun.) I was born in the 80's but I’ve always thought vintage was interesting. I also like the free spirit vibe of the 70's, minus the tripping out on drugs part.
It doesn’t take an observant person to notice that in the 70's are back in a huge way. Also there’s a lot of throwback happening for the 90's right now as well, but that’s a topic for a different day.
So for the rest of you flower children out there, let’s talk about some of the modest styles ModestPop has that showcase that carefree decade with a modest clothing approach.
This entire outfit is throwback. The high rise button flared Wide Leg Sailor Pants feature a nice earth tone shade. The Flared Sleeve Waist Tie Stripe Top is by no means a belly shirt, but it's shorter than some of our longer tops because it's meant to pair with high rise pants or a skirt that sits at the waist. It's a modest alternative to the bare midriff trend that's going on right now, also a throwback to the 70's.
My favorite 70's trend that's back right now is the graphic tees!! I love a tee that lets me express my own unique personality and style. That's what I sometimes feel is missing in the modest fashion world. It can come off as very Molly and vanilla, and I love how the graphic tees give me a voice to show off my individuality. These two say Sweet and a Little Bit Salty and Don't Rush Me I'm Waiting for the Last Minute. Whether you're wearing a funny saying that addresses how you feel about yourself or you're letting people know you are always doing things at the last minute, you're just being yourself and having fun with it.
The most 70's of the graphic tees are the ones with the ringer, the strip of solid fabric at the bottom of the arms and/or the neckline. This Cactus Graphic Tee says "the best is yet to come" with the cute trendy sun and cactus graphic just arrived this week!
Another new arrival modest graphic tee we got in this week says, "the mountains are calling and I must go." That one definitely describes me!
I feel confident and empowered dressing modestly, but I have more fun with it when I can dress modestly AND express myself through my choice of clothes. Does that mean I'm always dressed to impress? Nah. I'm wearing my pajamas and it's nearly 11 am as I type this out, ha!
For me, being on trend is fun but doesn't override my quest to dress modestly. When I can align the two, that's when I know I've found the right modest clothing for me. It's definitely a challenge, aligning trendy fashion and modesty but I'm here to help you navigate that search by providing hundreds of modest fashion options, including modest dresses, modest tops, and even modest flower child pieces for the 70's kid in all of us.
